Here you’ll find lots of free baby shower ideas for a Teddy Bear theme. Teddy Bears are a long-time classic, they’re loved all over the world and this baby shower theme will definitely be a BEAR special occasion.
What’s great about this theme is that it can be suitable for a boy or girl setting.
If you’ve never planned a baby shower or if it’s been a while since the last time, make sure you’ve read our Planning Basics 101 section where you’ll find lots of useful information to get you going.
Invitations
One of those original free baby shower ideas, is to use real live Teddy Bears with your invitations! You can buy little Teddy Bears (stuffed animals or even key-chains) at the dollar store or in bulk and then attach the invitation using ribbon or string tied around the Teddy Bear’s hand, neck, or around the waist. Another nice addition is to create a little bib for each little Teddy Bear and write a cute little sentence saying “A baby shower in honor of [expected mother’s name]”.
Remember to include all the important information: date, time, location, and an RSVP number (if the mother-to-be is registered at a gift registry, don’t forget to add this information as well). If you want, you can write a sentence or two encouraging the guests to bring their childhood Teddy Bears.
To make it easy for you, we’ve created original Teddy Bear baby shower invitations below. All you have to do is print them out and add the party details. You have two options:
- The worded version where we’ve added all the necessary text and all you have to do is fill in the party details.
- The blank version where you put in the text.
You can fill in the bib’s ribbon and seam with a colored marker (it’s best if it’s a color that suites your chosen theme-colors).
For more free baby shower ideas, you can buy Teddy Bear stencils or stickers and add them to your invitations and/or envelopes. You can make our printable invitations even more unique by choosing special paper. You can find all kinds of paper at craft stores. Consider card-stock in different colors or textures.
Another one of those cool free baby shower ideas is to print these invitations on paper, buy brown synthetic fur (that looks like Teddy Bear fur), cut it in the exact shape of the paper, and glue it on the back side of the invitation (so that whoever holds the invitation will be reading the front and holding the furry back side).
If you choose the blank version, here are some more free baby shower ideas to word your Teddy Bear invitations:
- “It’s a Teddy Bear Baby Shower in honor of [expected mother’s name], it’s going to be BEARy fun!”
- “They are expecting a baby, a new bundle of joy, they can BEAR-ly wait (whether a girl or a boy…)”.
- “A ‘bear’y special baby is on the way… join us for some teddy-rrific fun!”
- “Come to our cave to celebrate the arrival of our little bear-to-come!”
- “So sweet and cuddly, cute and fun, it’s a shower for [expected mother’s name], her new life’s begun!”
- “Beary Cuddly and Beary Sweet, with cute little hands and cute little feet! A new baby is on the way, so come and celebrate on [expected mother’s name] special day!”
- “We’re trading in our briefcase, for diapers and Teddy Bears, we’re giving up our desk, for bottles and high chairs! Toot the horns and bang the drums, and sing a happy tune! Our little super-star is gonna rock our world real soon!”
Decorations
Most Teddy Bears are light brown (although nowadays you’ll see Teddy Bears in all kinds of colors). You can choose all kinds of light brownish colors (balloons, streamers, plates, napkins, etc.) and throw in one or two more colors that might give a hint to the baby’s gender (light blue, light pink, or more neutral colors like orange, yellow, light purple, etc.).
Find as many Teddy Bears as you can (borrow some from friends if possible). Disperse them around the party area. You can use them as centerpieces and attach a helium balloon to their paws or around their waist. You can put ribbon around their necks (ribbon in the colors that you choose as the party colors). Another one of those cute and free baby shower ideas is to put cloth and/or disposable diapers on each of the Teddy Bears.
There are Teddy Bears that have zippers on the side and pouches inside the Teddy Bear. It could be a very nice idea to buy such a Teddy Bear and put everyone’s gift cards and certificates inside the pouch. You can also have it be the new baby’s first “Teddy Bear Bank”: everyone can put a few coins and notes filled with love greetings and wishes for the baby and parents-to-be. This can also be a keepsake and sort of time capsule (or better said ‘time CUBsule’). The parents can open it only in a years time or even when the baby is 18!
There are also loads of baby items (rattles, bottles, bibs, etc.) that have Teddy Bears printed on them. You can purchase them and create a beautiful gift basket or diaper cake for the parents-to-be (a gift that can also serve as a lovely centerpiece during the baby shower).
You can also print out our big Teddy Bear (it’s just like the invitation, just bigger) and tape it onto walls, doors, on the mom-to-be’s chair, etc. Here it is:
Another idea is to take each big printed Teddy Bear, punch a small hole on the top of the head and hang with fishing line from the ceiling.
You can add signs in the party area and in the entrance to the baby shower saying all kinds of ‘Bear’y things, here’s an example: “Teddy Bear Cave Entrance”. You can also decorate with Teddy Bear books, including Goldilocks and the Three Bears, Winnie the Pooh, Care Bears, Paddington Bear, Yogi Bear, Ballerina Bear (etc.) on tables and all around the party area.
Another cute idea is to create a “Teddy Bear Picnic” theme. For this you can put red and white checkered table-covers and lots of baskets with Teddy Bears inside of them. It will also be lovely to have little vases with beautiful flowers (ones that match your theme colors) or put little flowers floating in little jars with water.
We’ve created Teddy Bear paw prints for you to print out. You can tape them to your floor as if a Teddy Bear has walked around your party area (how about taping them onto the walls too? ;-).
Costumes
One of those cute free baby shower ideas is to make bear headbands for everyone (this is nice for adults too). You can buy a large bag of head-bands, cut out half circles from strong brown card-stock, and glue or tape them (two half circles for each headband, one for each ear) to each head-band. When each guest arrives, give them a Teddy Bear headband (everyone will be walking around with Teddy Bear ears, this is great for pictures!).
Cake
How about making a homemade Teddy Bear cake? Take a look at these cool cakes where you’ll find lots of ideas and how-to tips:
Here are a few free baby shower ideas for desserts:
An easy Teddy Bear cake recipe is taking a large cake in the shape of a circle (for the body), a medium-sized circle cake for the face, and 7 cupcakes (two for ears, one for protruding nose and mouth area, two for hands, and two for feet). Frost with chocolate or vanilla frosting (you can add coconut flakes, chocolate sprinkles, or by using the grass tip to create a fur texture). Add two black jelly beans or raisins for eyes, licorice for mouth (or pipe on a mouth with icing) and a triangular candy (could be a heart candy or drawn on with icing) for the nose.
Instead of making the whole body, you can also make a Teddy Bear face instead. Use a very large circle for the face, a cupcake for the protruding nose and mouth area, and cut a cupcake in half for the ears (use each half for each of the ears).
Another one of those cute and free baby shower ideas for dessert is to make Teddy Bear ice cream balls. This is very easy to do. You can make vanilla and chocolate Teddy Bears (yum!).
Take vanilla and chocolate ice-cream, spoon out a circle onto each dessert plate, add two black jelly beans (or brown M&M’s) for the eyes, a round or triangular candy for the nose, thin licorice for the mouth, and cut a vanilla-cream or chocolate-cream cookie in half to put on the top (each half for each ear).
You can cover the vanilla Teddy Bear faces in coconut flakes for the bear’s fur, and the chocolate Teddy Bear faces in chocolate sprinkles for fur. You can make these a day before the party. Put each Teddy Bear face on a dessert plate and put in the freezer overnight.
And YET another cute idea is making CUB-cakes. You can make little cub-cakes, each being a little Teddy Bear face.
Food and Drink
You’ll be needing those ‘Bear Necessities’ when feeding your guests…
Most kits include plates, cups, napkins, invitations, balloons, streamers, and much more!
Ideas for Party Food:
You can create little signs that show the titles of each dish. The signs can be cut out from card-stock in the shape of a Teddy Bear or with a Teddy Bear sticker. You can also write something like “Please Don’t Feed The Bears”.
- Bear-shaped sandwiches! Use bear-shaped cookie cutters to cut the bread before-hand. You can then create ready-made sandwiches or have a buffet (guests can put whatever they like in their sandwiches).
- Honey Treats – Bears are often associated with honey (it’s that lovely Pooh Bear!). You can create any kind of food that is associated with honey.
- ‘Bear’ritos and tacos – it could be a great idea to have a build-it-yourself taco and/or burrito (BEARrito) buffet? Provide taco shells and tortillas, separate bowls of cheese, little pieces of cooked chicken, minced cooked meat, cut tomatoes, avocado, sliced onions, lettuce, salsa and whatever else you think will fit.
Ideas for Party Drinks:
You can create honey ice cubes (or better yet, ‘honey ice-CUBS’). Make special ice cubes by adding a few drops of honey into ice cube tray compartments, add water and freeze (even better if you have Teddy Bear shaped ice trays!).
- Beary Juice – juice made out of any kind of ‘bear’ries (berries), ras’bear’ries, blue’bear’ries, straw’bear’ries, etc.
- Honey Bear Punch: All bears love honey! (at least Pooh Bear does…). Mix 2 quarts lemonade, 3 quarts unsweetened pineapple juice, and 2/3 cup honey.
Ideas for Party Treats:
- Teddy Grahams
- Gummy Bears
- ‘Bear’ries (a platter of all kinds of different berries. You can also pre-dip them in chocolate, put in the fridge, and serve them on the dessert table)
- Honey honey honey – cakes, muffins, honey nut cheerios… sweet and tasty honey treats.

Thank You’s and Baby Shower Favors
It’s always nice and thoughtful of the baby shower host to give each guest a small favor to thank them for coming and participating in this special day. Since this is a Teddy Bear baby shower, you can give out cute little bear favors.
Favors can be bear stationary (possibly using bear characters like Winnie the Pooh, Care Bears, etc.), little teddy-bear stuffed animals, bear socks, small bear photo holders, bear key-chains, bear-shaped soaps, bear bookmarks, bear band-aids, a bag of gummy bears, bear-shaped candles, small jars of honey, Teddy-Bear shaped cookies wrapped in cellophane paper, etc.
You can also create little Teddy Bear thank you notes. We’ve created little Teddy Bears you can print and cut out, here they are:
Write each guest a thank you note (it’s more personal and special if you hand-write each of them), laminate them and then glue a magnet on the back (this way the guest can put the magnet on their refrigerator and remember and cherish the Teddy Bear baby shower forever!).
At the party, try taking a photograph of each guest with the mother-to-be (wearing bear ears and holding a Teddy Bear). Then print out each picture and send with the thank-you note (or glue onto the bear-shaped thank-you card magnet if you decide to create it).
